Chosen Architecture

After all four of us presented our ‘unbuilt’ environments we were able to cull or selections so we would have only two to choose from.
Cameron found the Runners Up for the Macquarie University New Library Building Competition - http://www.archaust.com/unbuilt/resources/entries/2008/029.pdf Location: Macquarie University, Australia. JCY Architects + Urban Designers
Essmael managed to find the Runners Up for the Bodo Culture Centre - http://www.langdonreiszahn.com/pages/12_bodo_stage2.html Location: Bodo, Norway. Langdon Reis Zahn Architects.

We listed the Pros and Cons for both environments:

Library:

Pros
Level of detail acquired: The above PDF, was submitted for competition consideration. It clearly presents a site analysis, a front and back perspective, plans, sections and conceptual sketches. Whilst this submission was the only amount of information we were able to find regarding this project, we are confident that we are able to find further information as the building and the architects are Sydney based.
Context: Since the site is located in Ryde, Sydney, we would be able to visit and document the context of which this building is situated.
Cons
Viewing Ports in Crysis: From the plans acquired, it seems that this building has three large and flat levels. This would produce a useful function for a library, however for the purpose of this assignment we have to consider viewing ports in Crysis. Having spaces that are large and flat will not make for interesting vistas within a real time environment.
Unbroken Façade: The front façade looks to be rather continuous and unbroken. In reality, this would seem extremely appealing, as it would add to the grandeur of the building. However, we are concerned that in a real time environment, this grandeur will not have the same effect, and hence contribute to a rather large eyesore.

Culture Centre:

Pros
High Profile: This environment is associated with a high profile competition, and hence making the quality of the architecture quite superior.
Level of detail acquired: Being a high profile competition, the level of detail was quite high. We were able to find images from several different websites that enabled us to develop a greater understanding for the centre.
Context: This environment enterprises several significant elements in its context. These elements include: water, docks, streetscape, people and arcades.
Viewing Points in Crysis: This building includes irregular geometries that successfully forms interesting vistas and navigational cues. Walking through this environment in Cryisis would seem much more interesting than the library.
Cons:
Being located in a foreign country, the site is not as accessible as the library. We will try contact the architects via email, however, our chances seem quite slim. Hence we will need to make more of an effort to realize the site details.

Conclusion:
Whilst both projects produce interesting elements, we have chosen to go ahead with the Bodo Culture Centre. The main reason for this choice is that as a real time environment this project will be more successful due to its many navigation cues and interesting vistas. We will need to email the architects to see if we can acquire more information.
