1:00pm
Each team presented their chosen unbuilt architectural building to the class as well as their 8 chosen areas for the Tech tests. Each member explained their two tech tests, what they did and how successful or unsuccessful they were. We presented ours to the class without Sam as he wasn’t present and then we kept listening to the rest of the class.
2:45 pm
General class discussion about various tests and unsuccessful elements. Main concern was the fact that noone had successfully found how to import textures and materials into sandbox2.
3:00 pm
Broke off into our groups and worked through studio work. Cameron and Alichia began exploring how to create the terrain for our model and found that if we created a heightmap that we could import it into crisis. Meanwhile Ken did…
3:30pm
Started creating heightmap in Photoshop and found that we had to make it in greyscale 8-bit bmp image for it to be successfully imported.
3:50 pm
Created a rough draft heighmap in Photoshop and found out that the lighter the grey we use the lower the terrain appears. i.e if the map was coloured black then it would appear to be really high above water level.
4:15 pm
Successfully imported our draft heighmap into sandbox2 and found that we needed to invert the image in order for it to add water around the island. We also had to smooth certain areas as they were really angular. We weren’t really sure whether the map was to scale yet. Because we had just done a really quick map and didn’t have clear edges there were certain areas of the terrain that were irregular.
4:30 pm
Continued editing the map in order to create crisper edges and importing it into crisis.
5:00 pm
Finished class and decided that we would all come in on Monday afternoon and continue working on assignment, we also decided which four topics we would research and divided that between the four of us.
